Sometimes you stumble upon situations so horrifically bad that you can't help but laugh. It's like your brain tries to process the sheer extent of chaos and just throws its hands up, opting for a weak, desperate giggle as a coping mechanism.
But then, you suddenly become aware that it's not really actually that amusing. It's just plain terrible. And the laughter you experienced morphs into a groan.
After all is said and done, you are left with a sense of bewilderment. You start ruminating about the purpose of it all. Was this a joke?
Or were we just simply unfortunate enough to witness this spectacle unfold?

The earthquake struck without warning, ravaging entire towns in its sweep. Buildings shattered like fragile toys, and the screams that erupted was deafening. Dreadful Day Ever
It all started with a terrible case of uncontrollable hair. I couldn't figure it to look decent. As I was running out the door, I fell and spilled all over my new shoes. To make matters worse, I was completely running behind for a very important appointment.
I panting. My {boss|teacher|was absolutely furious. I attempted to explain, but it was a hopeless situation.
The rest of the day was an absolute nightmare. Everything. I couldn'tthink straight.
By the time I got home, I was utterly defeated. This day, this atrocious day will be forever remembered as an epic fail.

It all started out terribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then everything went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to run away and hide.
